It is as the name suggests, the use of horses to assist in a therapeutic technique, it is complimentary to many, if not all existing and highly established therapeutic methods. Interactions and Activities with the horses can help individuals to: Enhance problem solving and social skills Learn empathy and stimulate creativity Accept accountability for behaviours Gain a sense of personal control Learn stress, anger and frustration management Decrease feelings of hopelessness and depression Learn better communication skills Learn to work as part of a team Build a strong and positive perception of self Learn cause and effect – taking responsibility Find direction, focus and meaning for life/future Establish and build positive relationship foundations Improve balance and coordination Improve gross and fine motor skills Improve self esteem and self confidence Can help build trust Sessions There is only one person per session and the sessions are for one hour. There is no riding instruction involved and no experience with horses is necessary. Sessions may just involve watching the horses interact with each other, grooming and general horse care, stable management and activities involving the horses and possibly mounted exercises dependent on what the client is comfortable with. The horses have been here with me for a number of years, they are quiet, calm and of an even temperament and have been assessed for the activities. Adult camps will also be run throughout the year, for anyone who has an interest or love for horses but who don't wish to ride, we will also run hourly sessions teaching horse care and stable management for anyone with a love of horses but would prefer to keep both feet on the ground.
