His mother could only start school at the age of 12 years, and dropped out after Standard 6 - all because she was a girl. Ten years later, when his two elder sisters suffered the same fate and left school after Grade 3, Innocent's mother vowed that none of her other children would suffer the same fate, and she spent the next two decades working hard to send him and his younger siblings to school, with a meagre income from selling fruits and vegetables. Throughout his life, from attending some of the most under-resourced rural schools in Zimbabwe, to becoming the first university graduate in his family, and in nearly three decades of social impact work, Innocent has seen first hand how educating girls helps families thrive, communities prosper and nations grow. Today, as the world grapples to find lasting solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing our planet - from escalating climate change, global hunger, public health epidemics, to deepening poverty and widening inequality - Innocent remains confident and optimistic that education is the critical foundation for building a better world. With over 27 years of experience in the social impact sector, Innocent has held senior leadership roles at reputable NGOs such as Sesame Workshop, Health Systems Trust, ActionAid, Soul City Institute, Oxfam, CAFOD, and PLAN International, and served on the UN Democracy Fund's Advisory Board. Innocent has a Master of Philosophy in Human Rights and a Master of Science in Development Management, as well as certifications in creative writing. He is an avid reader, writer and storyteller who uses his creative writing skills to translate complex social and political issues into engaging stories.
