Imad Faruque Email & Phone Number | I am a senior postdoc working on chip-scale photonics for quantum technology applications. I graduated from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) with a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE). Soon after, I received an Erasmus Mundus scholarship for MSc study in photonic science and engineering at Universiteit Gent, Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the University of St Andrews in Europe. During my MSc, I studied both classical and quantum optics. My MSc project involved investigating photon-pairs generation in photonic crystal fibres. Also, I took every opportunity of travelling as much as possible and meet as many people as possible from all over the world. Afterwards, I was selected for a Marie Curie ESR PhD position in QET Labs on silicon quantum photonics, under the supervision of prof Mark Thompson and prof John Rarity. During PhD (awarded in 2018, Physics), I developed efficient photon-pairs generation in silicon photonics and used it for quantum technologies - computing, communication and metrology. Currently, I am investigating ways to design & fabricate integrated & high-performance heralded single-photon sources for distributed quantum computing. I like to contribute and have participated in and enjoyed the many outreaches and public engagement activities organised by the University of Bristol, the OSA student chapter and QET Labs.
