I am an experienced legal adviser and recently became coordinator of a place that is very dear to me: the Stiltecentrum in Utrecht. Studying law wasn't a calling but turned out to fit my personality well: my curiosity and thoroughness, my love of analysis, reasoning, critical thinking, ethics and language. I especially liked criminal law, family law, health law and migration law. As a law student I got five months work experience at the municipality of Soest. This led to a job after graduation in 1996. My job includes reviewing / drafting / interpreting contracts, policies, by-laws, permits / licences and other legal documents. A clear social relevance to my work (helping people) is becoming more important to me. I am now working to gain expertise in social security / welfare and privacy law. I was a member of the Works council for 9 years including 1.5 years as vice-chairperson. For 4 years I was a member of a commission dealing with objections from people to resolutions issued by their local authorities regarding social benefits and disability aid. In February 2015 I began volunteering at Stiltecentrum Hoog Catharijne. Seven months later I joined the board representing the team of volunteers. In February 2018 I became freelance coordinator at this special place. The Stiltecentrum is a ecumenical centre near the main train station in Utrecht and inside shopping centre Hoog Catharijne that offers a chapel where people can pray, meditate, light a candle or enjoy some peace and quiet, and a room where people can meet, have a cup of tea, share their stories or just relax and read for example. The Stiltecentrum is a place to "be". I speak Dutch and English and have basic communication skills in French and German. My other skills include reading carefully, writing intelligibly and reading braille.
