The first 10 years of his career were focussed on Australian coal mining operations, engineering and feasibility work. He was employed by Thiess, CSR and Shell in Queensland and New South Wales; from the coal face, both underground and surface, through to project teams planning and developing new mines. Hugh moved into international coal marketing whilst at Shell, later joining MIM, where he was instrumental in developing coking and thermal coal markets worldwide to allow the tripling of MIM's Queensland coal business during the 1990's. Over the past two decades Hugh has provided advisory services to international clients on a variety of short to long term arrangements, involving technical and commercial aspects of a substantial range of coal, iron ore, manganese and industrial minerals projects, both operating and potential. This work has included full marketing responsibility for a developing Mongolian coal company, an Australian industrial minerals producer and, currently, a UK company developing a new coking coal mine in NW England. Hugh is a graduate of the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, University of London. He is a Member of both the Australasian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy (AusIMM) and the UK-based Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IMMM), and is registered in the UK as a Chartered Engineer (CEng). www.hughbabbage.com
