She is a certified Performing Arts Teacher in the District of Columbia Public Schools and has been teaching K-12 Drama and Language Arts for almost twenty years at schools throughout the district, including the acclaimed Duke Ellington High School of the Arts and the Fillmore Arts School. Prior, she was Drama Director of Blair High School, the largest high school in Montgomery County, MD, where she was responsible for all theater productions and taught drama and directing. In addition, she taught language arts in the Schiff Scholars Program at Georgetown University, drama at the Mount Vernon Children’s Theater, and was a contracted Teaching Artist in Montgomery County, MD Public Schools. Also a poet (Larry Neal Poetry Fellow - DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities), playwright (A Love Supreme, Brave Bessie), children’s author (These Hands, Disney’s Hyperion Books for Children) and novelist (Luke Warm, Archway Publishing), she has conducted readings and creative writing workshops for children at children’s book festivals, public libraries, the National Press Club, the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian and for the Walt Disney Company. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater from Howard University in Washington, DC, and has taken graduate courses in Arts Integration and Education at the American University, the John F. Kennedy Center and Trinity College. She also gained additional training in New York, studying acting at the Herbert Berghoff Studio and dance at the Alvin Ailey Dance School and The Broadway Dance Center. She has performed in TV & film, off-Broadway, off-off Broadway, national touring companies, regional theater and summer stock. She has also directed and choreographed many student productions.
