Sitting in the Customs Office where my Dad worked, I had the awesomely important responsibility of stamping the customs documents. Those experiences of stamping, engaging with the truckers, and the whole atmosphere of excitement in the office really grabbed my attention. I can still hear the sound of that big heavy stamp slamming against whatever document needed authentication. I loved feeling a part of all the action. Released from military service, I proudly entered the world of Freight Forwarding. The first thing I looked for was that Stamp; but more than that, I quickly realized that the phone is mightier than the sword…. and “the Stamp”. With just a phone call, I could connect with someone halfway around the world and together we would move whatever needed to be moved in the most efficient manner possible. Collaborating is so invigorating. My highly diversified career keeps developing and improving my knack for creative solution building and problem solving. I love rolling my selves up, getting my hands dirty and moving stuff, even if it’s “just” a product from one bin to anther because it improves pick flow. If there’s one thing I know: there is always a solution, no matter what, even if it means to walk away… And I am not always good at that, because as a creative solver, I thrive on leading and collaborating ideas, watching them take life and flourish, and sharing in the success with my colleagues. However, not everything will bring a bottom-line profit for the company and that’s when I have to put on my big boy pants and admit it’s time to go back to the drawing board. Personally, and professionally, I’ve found that being personable, approachable, and professionally friendly opens a lot of doors, including those of inspiration and guidance that fills my imagination with simple solutions like the one in my Logistics Bucket-list Dream: “I am standing on an airstrip at Toronto Pearson Airport watching 3 specialty flatbed trucks loaded with super sensitive machinery drive straight into the belly of the newly revived Antonov AN-225 Mriya, that flies it to some far away destination. I am sitting in the last vehicle as we exit the plane and successfully deliver the equipment straight to the assembly site”. So… will someone please get that plane back in the air again because I’m gonna need it. (Yes, I’m talking to you, Richard Branson. How difficult can it be?!) Thank you very much!”
