During my time as Firearms Manager, I received two Quality of Service Certificates, one from the Chief Constable and the other from the Head of Performance. I also received a Chief Constables Commendation in 1997 for my Leadership Skills. A civilian CC Commendation is extremely rare and therefore I was extremely proud to have received such an accolade. The role of Firearms Manager was an extremely responsible one, which saw me being required to make on the spot decisions for which I was answerable for in Crown Court. I was responsible for all decision making within the Department and headed a team of 16 staff. I was responsible for all budget matters, policy writing, guidance writing, compliance with complex legislation, performance monitoring, liaison with internal and external parties. After 38 years in full time work, I retired (early) to enable me to spend time looking after my grand children. My stint of child minding finished and I am now doing temporary work to fill in my time.
