Heather Schallock is a Executive Director of the Nicolet College Foundation facilitating transformational change for students seeking higher education in the Northwoods and beyond. Dedicated to the development of the community, the advancement of Nicolet College, the engagement of donors, and the enrichment of students’ lives. Giving to the Nicolet College Foundation is a gift of “immediate change” in a person’s life–a gift I did not fully understand until I established my own scholarship in my grandparents’ names. The Konrad and Ilse Szews Memorial Scholarship wasn’t a business transaction; it was an emotional experience that filled me with so much happiness to have a way to honor my grandparents. It was very real. It helps the kind of students I think my grandparents would be proud to invest in. As I went through the steps of establishing criteria, putting in writing what their legacy means to me, and making a donation, I realized that if I can help our donors have this experience of connecting philanthropic goals and dreams with the needs of Nicolet students, I’m doing my job.
