My company Politepix is the company behind OpenEars, in its day, the most popular iOS framework for offline speech recognition and text-to-speech, found in apps and repositories from NASA, Adobe Labs, Waze (acquired by Google) and many more. Before Politepix, I developed and designed apps and 3rd-party frameworks for the iPhone and iPad, creating AllHours, an app for finding the perfect meeting time across time zones, chosen eight times as an Apple Staff Favorite on the App Store, among other well-received apps. OpenEars was also a plugin platform, with an assortment of paid add-ons which add unique features for developers such as realtime speech recognition, or even delivering realtime recognition of dynamic rules-based grammars while the user is still in the process of speaking, 100% offline, only using a mobile CPU. OpenEars has been featured in books such as O'Reilly's "Basic Sensors in iOS" by Alasdair Allan and "Cocos2d for iPhone 1 Game Development Cookbook" by Nathan Burba, among others. I'm preoccupied with good docs and created the quickstart tutorial tool at http://www.politepix.com/openears/tutorial to let even first-time app developers add speech recognition to their app in 5 minutes. Before my indie days I consulted on software and design projects of many Fortune 500 brands and have worn the job titles art director, UX director, and lead engineer on short-term and long-term projects, before that working in Silicon Alley and then Silicon Valley on Web 0.1 through 1.0. I've spoken at conferences worldwide on topics ranging from implementation of offline speech interfaces, defending user privacy, and running a sustainable indie software company.
