After graduating from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance, Motorola brought me on board. I was promoted through a variety of increasingly responsible roles, including Director of New Business Development for a 2B group, and Director of Financial Planning for three segments within the Corporation. While progressing at Motorola, I earned my MBA from DePaul University. In 1999 I was promoted to Motorola Vice President, and in 2000 named Vice President, Business Controller of the 6B GEMS business unit. GEMS needed to improve profitability and I co-chaired the indirect spend cross-functional team to identify areas for consolidation, reduction, and outsourcing. We delivered a 49M savings over two years, translating to a profitability gain of 0.4% to sales. During my years at Motorola, I taught a class on entrepreneurial planning, and used all that I had learned and taught to launch my own start-up in 2005. We had a successful and fun 4-year run with over .5M sales in the first year, and continued sales growth for the subsequent 3 years of the business. The chief competitor of Kelley Cellars recruited me as CFO. PEL was not focused on its core competencies, with 2 declining liquor stores diverting management attention and passion from the wine business. I championed the plan to divest the unprofitable liquor stores, achieving 3-year wine store sales growth through business focus, modernized technology, and online sales. In every position throughout my career, I have been able to do what I do best … overcome the challenges stunting profitable growth to achieve a company’s financial objectives.
