I have volunteered as a academic mentor teaching children GCSE English Language and Literature, and Maths and supporting them to look for career options. I have very good understanding of the issues surrounding safeguarding children, and reporting, communicating in a way which is understood by the children I am supporting, being creative in my teaching approach (e.g. using role plays to re-enact a scene out of play). I have also volunteered for Shout as a crisis texter which is a mental health charity which provides a text messaging service where people with a range of mental health issues or just issues in life can text a number connecting them to a crisis texter. I completed 25 hours of training with focus on liaison with mental health professionals, active listening and having a non-judgemental attitude, suicide prevention and awareness. I was also up until recently a listening volunteer for the Samaritans to help support people who need it the most.
