He undertook a postdoc at the Institute for Advanced Study in Dublin. He subsequently returned to Australia and worked at RMIT before returning to La Trobe in 1986. Geoff became Director at the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute in 2009, retiring in December 2018. Geoff is currently an Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at La Trobe. Geoff is a Fellow of the Australian Mathematical Society.
