Thus my intent is to leave things better than I find them when I have the power to do so. Through years of work in multiple IT fields and industries, as well as personal projects, I've focused on developing three key precepts to guide clients, friends and myself: - Design and build for security, - Be ethical in my decisions, - Spend resources sustainably. There is no one rule more important than the other. The overlap of all three principles results in sacrifices, and those sacrifices challenge some current approaches to computing. Some examples: - Availability is de-prioritized. The data is safe and reliable but security and sustainability might lead to reduced access to it. - Privacy comes first. Compliance and Service improvements can be achieved without having access to user data or behaviour. This protects both parties. - Growth is finite. Most industries work with infinity in mind. This is not sustainable. Expectations for both industry and individuals need to shift if we plan for a longer future. If a project cannot be done to accommodate these principles, it might either need to be reevaluated, or ultimately dropped. As a result, I’m interested in contributing to initiatives in which these principles are already applied or can be applied to.
