As a Manufacturing Quality Analyst Intern at Whirlpool Corporation, I sharpened my analytical and problem solving skills where I initiated a root cause analysis project to reduce customer claims by 40% using various software such as SAP, SASVA, Minitab and Excel Prior to Whirlpool, I worked at Cummins Inc as a Quality Engineering Co-op where I saved over 300,000 annually using value stream mapping (VSM), six sigma tools and statistical analysis. I handled various projects at a time which made me learn time management skills and versatility. In a scrap reduction six sigma project where I managed a team of 3, just before the day of presenting our findings to manufacturing and quality leaders, we got to know that the data we collected was erroneous but we didn’t give up and stayed late to rectify the issue. I learned teamwork is essential and whatever work you do,enjoy even when no one is looking as instead of feeling upset, we were happy while solving the problem. As the Lean Manufacturing Project Executive at Steel Strips Wheels Ltd., I led a team of 10 for the successful completion of projects and used lean six sigma concepts for the work to be efficient and effective which made me hone my troubleshooting and data analysis skills. I can recall a situation where I learned conflict management in which an operator refused to let me videotape his work steps for time studies in a Kaizen Event. I could have gone to my manager and asked for help but I stepped back and started thinking about reasons. After 5-10 minutes of brainstorming, I went back to the operator and negotiated the situation by saying his face won’t be in the video. He agreed to this and I completed this project by increasing the line output by 254 products per shift. Working on community events helped me develop strong organization and communication skills that I know are critical to the success of any team. Also, being a President of Leaders in Continuous Improvement (LCI) at Michigan technological university helped me whet my leadership skills.
