This led to me working for the international oil & gas logistics company ASCO Ltd, where I eventually ended up managing the Marine Technical Department. This role included conducting OVIQ/CMID inspections and MSF On-hire surveys on board AHTS, PSV's and ERRV's. Additionally, the job also entailed visiting with client vessels and performing safety briefings, supervising the load out of project/heavy lift cargoes, conducting accident/incident investigations, sailing as a client rep on various trips offshore, ISM audits at vessel operator offices and performing ERRV R&R trials. After more than 6 years with ASCO Ltd an opportunity arose to join the Port of Sunderland port control team as LPS operative. After approximately one year in this role I was given the chance to train as a harbour pilot/deputy harbour master and it is in this role I am currently engaged.
