Working in the defence industry for the Prime Contractor in the South East Region enabled me to embark on an extremely steep learning curve and to gather a vast array of skills and knowledge that would not be possible elsewhere. My more recent experience, as Head of New Works, finds me responsible for a team of 30, managing the delivery of capital projects across the region. The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) is responsible for the management of the building infrastructure across all MOD sites in the UK. PriDE was formed of Interserve Defence and SSE Contracting to manage the Contract across the South East Region. This covers around 100 locations and includes some of their most prestigious sites such as St James’ Palace, Cavalry Barracks, Royal Horseguards, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and Headley Court to name but a few. Some memorable projects that I have been fortunate to work on have included: A 900k project to save the boundary wall at Regents’ Park; Repairs to the Portland Stone Walls at Horseguards securing the wall in time for the Queen’s Birthday Parade and 2012 Olympics & LED lighting projects at multiple sites (see case studies). I’ve managed to pick up a few industry awards along the way, a nice added bonus. Environmental and sustainability issues are high on my own personal priority list and they need to be high on the business agenda too. With businesses targeted to reduce carbon emissions, I ensure that sustainability solutions are ever present throughout each project from planning through to completion.
