Fabrizio Smith Email & Phone Number | I received the MSc degree in Information Engineering from the University of Rome “Roma Tre” in 2008 and a Ph.D. from the University of L'Aquila in 2012. In 2008 I joined the Institute for System Analysis and Computer Science of the Italian National Research Council (IASI-CNR), where I also held a Post-Doc position between 2011 and 2015. From March 2015 I am a Research Engineer at ALES, a research and innovation center on embedded systems belonging to United Technologies Corporation (UTC). My research interests are related to semantics-based techniques for knowledge representation and management, with a particular focus on enterprise applications, systems interoperability and collaborative business innovation systems. In this context, my Ph.D. research has been centred on logic-based formalisms for reasoning on semantically enriched business processes, in order to ease the verification, analysis and retrieval of process models annotated in terms of domain ontologies. Other topics addressed in my work are related to the development of methods and tools for: verification of data-aware business processes; process composition and orchestration of service models; management of enterprise knowledge through ontology-based and linked data applications; collaborative approaches for knowledge acquisition and ontology building. I have been also involved in several national and international projects from the 7th European FP, such as the IP COIN, focused on enterprise collaboration and interoperability, and the STREP BIVEE, dealing with Business Innovation in Virtual Enterprise Environment. In these contexts I had the opportunity to work in highly distributed and international teams, gaining experience on several aspects related to the proposal, the coordination and, finally, the implementation of a medium-to-large research project.
