She is committed to creating access, equity and equality through her work. She has over 20 years of experience in education and has conducted basic and evaluation research, developed interventions, provided executive leadership to a wide-range of community and government programs and agencies, and implemented student retention programs. Her interests are broadly focused on three areas: 1) academic and student success 2) executive leadership and non profit organizations and 3) civic and community engagement. She has worked with diverse communities in North Carolina, state and local CBO’s, Colleges and Universities around the country. She received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL, and her Ph.D. from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC where she specialized in Ecological/Community (Health) Psychology. Her undergraduate teaching in Psychology has been evaluated as exceptional by students and her classes have attracted a wide diversity of students. Additionally, Dr. Banks travels around the country to promote education and to present “Best Practices” on strategies that lead to increasing retention and graduation rates among underrepresented and underserved students.
