Arriving in New Orleans after a long stint in New Jersey and New York doing everything from playing broke artist, to cab driver, bus driver, street performer, and bar band guru, Styles has seen and done and smoked it all. This kaleidoscope of careers and life experience has led to the vibrant street influenced artistry that Styles has evolved over the years. Edgy editorials, snappy observations of the human experience and the willingness to speak out against a system that’s enjoyed toying with him, and his cohorts, Styles is a mouthpiece for the little man. His work with Quarter Rat Monthly has showcased a symphony of ideas that are layered in grit, and without pretense. Styles takes risks in poking fun at the lopsided institutions and good ole’ boy backdoor politics of The Crescent City, and so far he’s reminded out of O.P.P. (That’s Orleans Parish Prison for you out of towners, AKA the most frightening jail on earth. Google the gun video) With his life firmly entrenched on the fringe, Styles has mentally and artistically documented the ups and downs of his choices. He’s paid his dues as an artist, and now with the availability of the Internet and the ease of sharing his worldview and opinions, the funky little rat of the Quarter, is now getting worldwide attention. Styles comics are edgy while his vocabulary is honest and forthright: everything that’s missing from the current social landscape of a city that’s hand to mouth, and where a knife in the back isn’t totally out of the question. A local of the French Quarter, Styles gets to see how life brews and percolates with a documenting eye.
