He trained at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center after earning his medical degree at Yale University. His work is cited by the National Cancer Center Network (NCCN) guidelines in the management of lung and thoracic cancers. Dr. Brooks also advocates for better patient access to care as UF’s Faculty Liaison for Operations (FLO), working to improve procedures for prior authorization and revenue cycle optimization at the Proton Center. He also serves as the Chief Health Value Officer for the University of Florida's Department of Radiation Oncology. “Finding ways to improve the complicated insurance authorization and billing process ultimately makes it easier for patients to get the optimal treatment for their specific disease,” he notes. “It’s very rewarding to see how working with our team to improve access has had such a positive direct effect on our patients.” Dr. Brooks also works on numerous operational, clinical, marketing, and policy initiatives to drive innovation and business development within UFHPTI and the UF department and system. Dr. Brooks' background engenders the unique ability to creatively harmonize clinical compassion by 'putting the patient first' with optimal value achievement from the projects he leads or assists. Daily, Dr. Brooks collaborates with executive leadership to develop short and long-term strategic and operational plans. He takes a data driven, team-based approach with robust aptitude to analyze complex sets of data, identify trends and quickly implement solutions to address operational and strategic challenges while simultaneously applying sound financial and budgetary management. He holds degrees in statistics, business administration, and healthcare and business law in addition to his medical training.
