I gain satisfaction from helping my patients solve their medical problems. I have found my calling. When I was working in the Rheumatology Clinic from 2019-2021, I noticed patients with autoimmune diseases often have delayed diagnosis, due to the diverse and unpredictable clinical manifestations, as well as the lack of Rheumatology services in the country. I understand the frustration of being undiagnosed. A clinical diagnosis not only enables patients to make sense of their suffering, but also allows them to legitimately seek treatment and support. It became my vision to close this diagnostic gap. It was then that I planned to further my training in Rheumatology. I stepped outside my comfort zone. In 2022, I took up the challenge to serve in a health clinic in rural Sarawak when there was a shortage of healthcare providers in the area. While I was there, I led the Village Health Team (VHT) programme which provided mobile healthcare services to 17 remote villages. I pioneered the Domiciliary Palliative Care project, removing access barriers to end-of-life care faced by the rural communities. I improvised the community tuberculosis screening programme and tripled the screening completion rate. I stay on track with my goal. Outside working hours, I continue to pursue my specialisation in Internal Medicine. I passed my MRCP(UK) Part 1 and Part 2 (written) examinations through self-directed learning. In 2023, I entered the Master of Internal Medicine programme under University of Malaya with a full scholarship. I am currently undergoing off-campus clinical training in the Sarawak General Hospital. I maintain work-life balance. On my off days, I enjoy hiking and coffee time with friends.
