In 2013, I completed a 500-hour Hatha Tantra yoga teacher training, which included certification as an Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist by the Himalayan Institute. A workshop in “Mindful Yoga Therapy for Veterans Coping with Trauma” through the Veterans Yoga Project led me to trauma-sensitive yoga (TSY). In 2016 I completed the Trauma Center’s Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) 300-hour training program and am certified as a TCTSY Facilitator. [TCTSY is an empirically validated, adjunctive clinical treatment for complex trauma and chronic, treatment-resistant PTSD. Developed at the Trauma Center in Brookline, Massachusetts, TSY has foundations in Trauma Theory, Attachment Theory, and Neuroscience as well as Hatha Yoga practice with an emphasis on body-based yoga forms and breathing practices.] In 2017 I completed the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program offered through the Yale Stress Center Program at the Yale School of Medicine. [MBSR is a widely-studied, evidence-based intervention that has shown to be helpful in reducing stress levels and better managing conditions such as depression, anxiety, insomnia and chronic pain.] Recently I joined the Integrative Medicine department at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT teaching yoga and meditation and providing Reiki to cancer patients. I currently teach Yoga for 50+, Restorative Yoga and Yoga for Depression & Anxiety at Your Community Yoga Center in Hamden, CT, as well as Yoga for Veterans at the West Haven VA and to members of the military in recovery at the Stonington Institute, North Stonington, CT. My classes incorporate trauma sensitive yoga principles and are designed to support students of all ages, abilities and physical capacity to experience and explore the many gifts of yoga and meditation.
