  Elizabeth Nesmith Rn is a Responsible for implementing the mission and vision of the Augusta University College of Nursing within the Department of Nursing Science. Includes general oversight for tenure-track faculty and Director of Nursing PhD Program. Also responsible for maintaining own program of research. Federally-funded research foci include the effects of chronic stress prior to injury on the inflammatory response following injury and the effects of substance use on organ health response following traumatic injury. Peer-reviewed publications and national presentations focus on these topics, as well as the implementation of our PhD/DNP Operational Collaborative (P-DOC) Model of clinical and research collaboration among doctorally-prepared nurses. Teaching responsibilities include educating nursing students nursing and interdisciplinary students at graduate levels. Currently a member or chair of several PhD and DNP student committees. Service includes active peer reviewer for multiple clinical and research journals, editorial board member, and service at national, state, regional, and local levels related to nursing education and acute care. Clinical experience includes past board certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, and former staff and administrative positions in the Emergency Department of a busy Level 1 Trauma Center, Trauma Nurse Clinician/Clinical Nurse Specialist, former member/officer of GA-4 Disaster Medical Assistance Team and the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Team, as well as Instructor Faculty for the Emergency Nurses Association Trauma Nurse Core Course since 1999 and service on various clinical and evidence-based practice committees.
