After having spent 14 years with The American Film Institute on their detaled film cataloging project, sandwiched around five years as a research supervisor for the copyright law firm of Brylawski & Cleary (whose research department was later absorbed by Thomson and Thomson), I reorganized MPIS to primarily produce detailed copyright reports, using my vast knowledge of cinema history and keen intuitive skills. I have been able to expand on the basic copyright report to include information not available in the Copyright Office files. MPIS compiles hundreds of reports annually representing research on thousands of films, television programs, songs, books, etc. My rate is 150/hour. Most searches are completed within 72 hours, often sooner. The fee is 125 for the first hour, with a one hour minimum charge, and 100 each additional hour. Expedited searches (24 hour turnaround) are billed at 200 per hour. Generally, a simple search of three movie titles or songs will take about one hour. More extensive reporting on underlying works and music can lengthen the amount of time needed to complete reports of this nature. Fax back service is provided at no extra charge. Photocopy costs are passed along at no additional cost above the 25 per copy fee charged by the Copyright Office.
