Covid did not cause domestic violence. It exposed it. There was never a more vital time to raise awareness about its traumatic prevalence and what we have to do in Ireland to protect and support survivors. I also supported many other organisations, including TASC; the Galway Traveller Movement, Community Action Network, Women for Election and many inspiring community groups like the residents of Oliver Bond Flats, campaigning to improve their housing conditions. I previously worked as PR Director at Persuasion Republic from 2012 to 2019. I've been lucky to work with some amazing people and groups, many leading the charge to help make Ireland a more progressive and fairer country. Highlights include Reverend Jesse Jackson working for Equality & Rights Alliance, the residents of Dolphin House for Rialto Rights in Action, campaigning for housing rights and regeneration, Drs Katherine Zappone and Ann Louise Gilligan as they started the landmark campaign for Marriagequality, or TENI as it started on the journey to gender recognition legislation in Ireland. I've also worked with a number of commercial and non-profit focused PR agencies including Montague Communications, Fleishman Hillard and Hill & Knowlton, both in Dublin and in London. And to bring things full circle, I worked as press officer with the Green Party and have been a long standing supporter and advocate for a fair transition to lower carbon living. I was appointed to the Compliance Committee of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) from 2009 to 2014. I previously lectured on Communications, Media and Marketing as a module of the MA in Public Advocacy and Activism at the Huston School of Film and Television at NUI Galway. I have a Master's Degree in International Human Rights Law (Irish Centre for Human Rights, NUI Galway) and a BA in communications/journalism from the University of Arkansas, where I was a scholarship athlete.
