Ed graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Education while concurrently serving full duty in the U.S. Navy. He voluntarily joined the U.S. Navy in 1966 and spent one year of active combat service in Vietnam from 1969-1970. He was promoted to a member of the elite U.S. Naval Special Operations (EOD) team in 1974 and actively served in many different capacities for the next fourteen years. Ed retired from the U.S. Navy with honors in 1988. He served fourteen months during Desert Sweep (Desert Storm) located in Kuwait from 1991-1993. In addition, he has just finished an extended tour in Iraq as (EOD). In between the overseas assignments, Ed has owned his own small business in the insurance industry for over twelve years. In his spare time, Ed travels to many churches playing guitar for gospel singing groups sponsored by the church membership. He also enjoys the chance to play bluegrass music with his friends.
