Ebaa Alzayadneh Email & Phone Number | I received my phD degree in Physiology and Pharmacology from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. I was interested in studying the intracellular renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in the kidney in terms of expression, localization, synthesis, regulation and function of the components of this endocrine system. My thesis studies utilized the NRK-52E cell line, an established proximal tubule epithelial cell model to elucidate the functional relevance of this system. Furthermore, we examined the regulation of the intracellular RAS system under pathological conditions, and in particular diabetes. In addition, my thesis studies have started to establish the role of Angiotensin-(1-7), an endogenous product of the RAS, as a potential therapeutic approach to attenuate renal fibrosis in response to stimulation of the NRK-52E cells by advanced glycation products including methyl glyoxal albumin. We assessed different cell signaling pathways and enzymes metabolisms as well as immunofluorescent staining of intracellular proteins.
