Commitment to Lead: Duane created Grandma Hoerner’s Foods, Inc. from scratch, doing everything from the R&D to hitting the road to sell that first jar of Big Slice. As the company began to grow, he began to involve others in the business, including his wife, Regina McCoy. Regina fondly recalls how Duane led by example, taking her along on his sales trips and guiding her through everything from the finances to the R&D. In addition to Regina, Duane has mentored countless associates over the years, bringing them up through the ranks as they learned and grew. His most recent mentee is his son, Dalton, who is learning every aspect of the business. The strong team he and Regina have created is able to excel because of the way they were taught. Duane's always available if needed, but he knows the value of letting a well-trained team do what it does best on its own with his oversight.
