From my childhood BMX track to the pinnacle of the sporting world - the Olympics - where I was fortunate enough to walk away as part of my sport's first medal winners, I've come to know the real value and freedom a bicycle can bring. Whether used as a mode of transportation or as a vehicle to self-discovery, joy, or acceptance, I've begun to pose the question to audiences of all ages - "How Far Can Two Wheels Take You?" It’s no secret that the once-ubiquitous bicycle is rapidly disappearing from our neighborhoods as the vehicle of choice for kids. Whatever the reason, it’s time to reverse the trend by ushering in a call-to-action for families nation-wide by introducing bicycle programming that promotes health, confidence, as well as quality time. The rallying cry is, “Let’s Get Kids Back On Bikes!,” and the goal is precisely that. Through inter-curricular education like the USA BMX STEM program, we are bringing kids back together with bicycles, via the classroom. Outside of school, the BMX Racing League is helping kids from 4-15 get active and race their bikes in a beginners-only environment. Bridging the gap from education to activity will allow hundreds of thousands of kids to find their calling. Who's in?
