I was lucky though to be involved with three paradigm busting technologies of the sixties, electronic switching systems (BTL), marine cargo containerization (Matson Navigation Co.), and the introduction of wide body aircraft (American Airlines). Increasingly coming into contact with the financial side and having some spare change to jingle, I took two years off to get an MBA in international finance. Following which I did independent consulting, eventually as Technovation, Inc., with a focus on aerospace technologies. My special interest was in product and business development for smaller companies, but frequently the rent was paid by work for NASA and an assortment of other government agencies. In later years I spent a lot of time in technology transfer, i.e., figuring out how to turn exotic government derived technology into commercially useful products, for existing as well as start-up enterprises. Got to play in a wide variety of sand boxes, including composite materials, energy (all kinds), communications, software development, instrumentation, robotics.
