Dominique Perkins Email & Phone Number | My interests are the environment, contributing to my community, and traveling. I am really big on recycling as a result of growing up doing it. I participate in a number of outdoor activities including- skiing, snowboarding, and hiking when I get the chance. One summer, I worked with the Student Conservation Association (SCA). SCA is an organization dedicated to preserving the environment and working with the land. We fixed and cleaned up hiking trails in national parks such as the C&O Canal National Historic Park in Great Falls Maryland. Looking at the completed work was breath-taking and our view was amazing. I am a firm believer in community service. My mom used to work at a homeless shelter in Virginia, and I used to help out at their events, such as The Cook-Off, an event they host every year. For The Cook-Off, my job was to entertain and help children from ages 3 to 8 with coloring and decorating objects for their parents-whom were food tasting. I also learned how to make balloon hats and do face paint when some of the volunteers were short-staffed. It was interesting, but really fun and I felt accomplished because I was able to help out. In college, I did community service as well (I did become a part of the Vol family). It was inevitable. I was a part of two organizations, in which service was one of the things that they valued. We did activities such as volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, help clean a school, assist with the Special Olympic games, and more! They were all really great and moving experiences. Along with service, I absolutely love to travel. It is a rewarding experience to meet new people and venture out of your comfort zone. I first went overseas in 2007 to Greece. It was really amazing. Since then, I had the opportunity to go to Australia, I was able to the participate in Semester at Sea and go to to 16 countries, and now I have the opportunity to work and travel abroad by teaching in China for a school year.
