Working intensively in the field of thermal energy storage and refrigeration, Vuarnoz became the head of a research group devoted to the experimental study of multifunctional fluids (2004-2005). In 2007, Vuarnoz entered the research field of magnetocalorics. In 2013, he graduated from t Kobe University with a doctorate in Engineering (Dr. Eng). From 2013 to 2015, He went on to postgraduate studies at the HES-SO/HEIG-VD with scientific contributions to a novel treatment against cancer relying on rotating nanowires inducing local hyperthermia. In 2015, appointed as senior scientist, Vuarnoz joined EPFL to conduct research on innovative LCA-based energy strategies and carbon emission mitigation in buildings. In 2019, He served as an academic associate for the School of Engineering and Architecture (HEIA-FR) at the smart living lab in Fribourg, Switzerland. Vuarnoz received a Fellowship from the Academy of Technical Sciences of Switzerland (2002-2003), from the Japanese Ministry of Education (2009-2013). He has co-signed to two patents, four book chapters, and 86 journal & conf. papers. He is a regular reviewer for different scientific journals and served several times as a chairman at International Conferences organized by the International Institute of Refrigeration, the Korean Society of Mech. Eng., and the Japanese Society of Mech. Eng. Moreover, he acted as an expert for State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) in Switzerland.
