They contribute vitally to community, under a banner of respect for self-expression, in reverence to our artists, with relevance to our daily lives and as reference point from which to inform our future. Each one offers a uniquely captured heirloom or hybridised snapshot of cotemporary life or content drawn from long held ceremonies, re-contexualised rituals, tradition and practices. Festivals give place meaning, enable people with opportunities to engage, own and participate in, they invite you to seek, entice you to explore its possibilities and be challenged. They deliver shared experiences and benefit community in presenting a rich, diverse tapestry of enduring memories. Although it is difficult to convey the experiences I have gained in working on festivals and events, however it is the fundamental belief and passion for ‘expression’ in all its forms that keeps me genuinely engaged with the process and its realm of possibilities in putting together something which aspires to be greater than the sum of all its parts.
