At the age of 14, I made a conscious decision to fully immerse myself within the game of basketball and by the age of 21, I had become a professional basketball player, living overseas, in both Mexico and the Philippines. 5000 miles away from sunny Los Angeles, CA, a series of eye-opening experiences would occur, allowing me to expand my horizon over the next three years of my life abroad. The moments of solace came from the connected global language of the sport. To me, basketball had become a physical representation of a larger game-- the mental game and the power of the mind. That the true teachings of my profession could translate over to my future ventures. I had to test my theory and follow my curiosity--so at the age of 24, I decided to make the transition from "Hardwood to Hardware" as I returned to California and co-founded a technology startup company called Festiie. We created an IoT wearable device that allows people to stay connected at massive events such as festivals, theme parks, and crowded locations without the need of cell phone reception, wifi, or data. Our idea morphed from a piece of paper to a proven concept and our first social media test video proved our theory and generated over 1 million views in 3 days. From bootstrapping an idea, proving a concept, fundraising a 6 figure pre-seed round while in college, and all the life lessons in between, the excitement continues. So here I am, former professional basketball player turned tech entrepreneur, yet I still tell my peers that I am playing basketball, it just looks different :) .
