Dennis Hooks Email & Phone Number | Out of USNA as a Surface Warfare Officer, I reported to USS DECATUR (DDG 73) as Repair Officer. When offered the opportunity to stay onboard as Antisubmarine Warfare Officer, I accepted--deploying with the ship to the 7th Fleet operational area in the western Pacific. My sonar team executed their mission flawlessly, and I developed a passion for the analytical processes required to paint a picture of what a submarine was doing based on incomplete information. Upon returning from deployment, I was named acting Department Head for Plans and Tactics--filling a position usually reserved for one with 8-10 years' experience. With the desire to teach my area of expertise to another generation of Surface Warriors, I selected orders at Fleet Antisubmarine Warfare Training Center in San Diego, accepting the position of Course Supervisor within three months of checking onboard. Shortly thereafter, the Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) selected me to complete a three-month Warfare and Tactics Instructor training pipeline, from which I graduated at the top of my class. In my follow-on position, I had the privilege of managing how the tactics I'd been working in/on for years are taught to future generations as well as contributing to fleet readiness worldwide as a traveling inspector for SMWDC. After being exposed to Chick-fil-A’s remarkable culture, I had the opportunity to transition out of the military and into one of the best learning environments in the brand.
