Here’s a five point summary: - I wanted to make video games, but flunked out of Computer Science at 19. After a year out (working at Amazon, before they were evil), I discovered digital design and haven’t looked back since. - My first proper job was making things at a digital agency with Adobe Flash. Yes, the Flash that Steve Jobs wrote a letter about. Ok, it was a crime against web standards, but we made some really fun games and animation. - After going down a rabbit hole for a while with motion design, I ended up lecturing the subject at university and co-founding an industry conference. I still find it spellbinding to see static graphics come to life. - Learning new things is what gets me out of bed. That led me into making learning experiences for professional development. Sounds a bit dry, but with inspiration from games and movies, it’s possible to make fun experiences that people genuinely want to try. - Maybe the thing that ties this all together is data. From analysing the way users interact with games, to researching personas for a learning experience, or sharing resources within my team: using data in a smart ways helps us make better decisions and leads to (again) continuous improvements.
