I have developed my career based on the ethos that effectively treating human disease and delivering personalized healthcare requires a detailed understanding of the why, when and how a disease condition develops. Over the course of my career, I have accrued an extensive portfolio of research expertise that includes genetics, transgenics, vascular biology, rare human diseases, dermatology, RNA interference (RNAi)-based therapeutics, molecular biology, biochemistry, systems biology and state-of-the-art assay development. I joined the Division of Molecular Medicine at the University of Dundee to establish a successful, highly-collaborative independent research group aimed at developing RNAi-based therapeutics for treating human diseases and using systems biology approaches to begin to truly understand human disease pathologies on the molecular level. I am a strong advocate of collaborating with patient groups and the public to advance life sciences and healthcare research outcomes. These collaborations provide unique and extremely valuable end-point perspectives that truly advance the development of new treatments in directions that most effectively improve patient lives.
