Declan Murphy Email & Phone Number | My history of software development began when I earned a Non-Foundation Scholarship in Theoretical Physics in 2012. I had been studying Maths and Physics, but with a single course in C to model a "particle in a box" potential. Immediately after graduating from Theoretical Physics, my scholarship earned me a place in an MSc in High Performance Computing, applying parallelization and optimization techniques to solve scientific problems in C/C++. Upon graduation, I began working as a Java developer with CarTrawler. None of my scientific computing was applicable, but I was exposed to industry standards, unit tests, databases, web servers and everything else that I would have learned if I had studied a Bachelors in CompSci. The need to learn all of these technologies by myself as fast as possible has made my knowledge deep and far-reaching. My workflow is Agile by default. I was internally promoted less than 1 year later to maintaining all internal systems in the company, dealing with each department to ascertain their technological needs and help them work more efficiently by automating as much of their work as possible. I was the sole member of this team, simultaneously handling multiple workstreams while conducting my own time+project management. I answered directly to the CTO. To keep the math part of my brain alive, I have been developing Flight Club (https://www.flightclub.io) in my spare time. Flight Club is a space launch and landing trajectory simulator. The project is (in it's current form) a Java 8 back-end built with Maven+Jenkins, speaking to a MySQL database via Hibernate. The front-end is AngularJS, built with Gulp, Sass and Angular Material. I use CesiumJS for the 3D visualizations of Earth. The client and server are connected via a RESTful API, which I also designed and built myself. The application is hosted on a DO Ubuntu droplet, which I manage. My goal is to work in the commercial space industry writing GNC software or doing trajectory design.
