Debbie Horvath Email & Phone Number | I have worked most of my life with children and adolescents in the Child Welfare system, first in a group home setting as an undergraduate student, to a residential setting upon graduating with my MSW from UCONN (Go Huskies!). I then went on to work with children and families in Kinship care situations in the Yale Child Study Center Family Support Services Program for about 5 years. I then joined IPP, working alongside ABA therapists with children and adolescents with specialized emotional, behavioral and medical needs in foster placement. I worked there for 10 years, ending my career there as an Admission Coordinator and Supervisor, while also working part-time as a therapist in an outpatient setting in Meriden, then in Cheshire, CT. In July I left this job to pursue my lifelong dream of being a therapist full-time! My experience includes working with children and adolescents who have experiences a wide range of degrees of trauma, broadening my understanding and instincts which have been useful in working with adults as well. My knowledge of systems including medical, child welfare, and educational and mental health have also proven invaluable my work with my clients in my private practice. My areas of expertise include working with adolescents with special needs, adults with life stressors, depression and anxiety. I also have experience and a strong commitment to working with adolescents and adults who identify as Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender, as they work through issues related to societal non-conformity, self-acceptance, personal relationships and oppression.
