I have served in executive leadership roles in nonprofit organizations with a mission to address the obstacles facing under-served families, seniors, and youth. My strong strategic partnership and leadership skills have allowed me to propel stakeholders, team members, donors, and community members to work toward achieving transformational results that enrich the lives of those needing more. Through advocacy, direct service, education, and building community partnerships, I have a strong track record of taking bold steps to advance equity in pursuit of a just and inclusive society. My entrepreneurial style led my family to create and launch The Roumell Family Scholarship Fund for Wayne State University for low-income, primarily first-generation Wayne State students. This fund allows WSU students to receive a stipend to enable them to participate in undergraduate research, service learning, or other exceptional learning activities. This same style resulted in a new technology program to address the needs of isolated seniors. I volunteer my time as a mentor to young girl from an immigrant community in achieving long and short-term social and educational goals including how to secure a summer job, learn local public transportation, and advocate for themselves. Additionally, I am helping an Afghan family resettle in America. The resettlement includes housing, employment, benefits and education. My unique background as an attorney has enabled me to make changes for at-risk youth and domestic violence victims in legal matters before the DC Superior Court and legislative and policy changes before the DC Council and the US Congress. The Certificate in Nonprofit Management has given me the tools to not only further the vision and mission of the organization but also the ability to create an infrastructure to make it possible. This Certificate provided in-depth training in financial management, resource and fund development, leading organizational change, talent management, advocacy in the public interest and strategic communication. My ability to envision, create and advance innovative ideas in advocating for vulnerable populations continues to be the most gratifying highlight of my career.
