Many things can be found by just thinking of things outside the box or inside the sphere. It may be that a change needs to be made to an application. I'll find the IT contact and get it requested. It may be that someone needs to find where to request an account/password to a site. I'll find out where that can be accomplished. It may be that facilities installed a work desk that does not work for you. I'll take the desk apart and rebuild it. While having the knowledge is nice, being able to train others is even better. Through User Acceptance Testing, I learn about programs early on and then relay that knowledge to others. Working as a liaison between the users and IT, I can get issues resolved that normally get ignored. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A problem solved is one less thing standing in your way of getting a job accomplished.
