I Completed five full deployments, with 19+ hour days, harrowing carrier landings, one (KNOWN) failed MANPAD shot at our aircraft, and just enough debauchery to make it all balance out. I was able to employ our E-2C weapon system to control aircraft in and out of Iraq during Operation Enduring Freedom. Little known fact, we dropped more then 3x the bombs, in 3 weeks, than they did during the entire first gulf war. During my last deployment, I was a honored to switch over to the best kept secret of the navy and that was the COD (C-2 greyhound - also known in Top Gun as the plane that "flys rubber dog-[doo-doo] out of Hong Kong") Well, I never did get to fly into Hong Kong (almost!...), but I did fly crazy dignitaries out of many countries and most notable were the Sultan of Brunei, Sam Zell (woth 4.5 billion at the time), and General Bell and staff out of South Korea. I finished up having completed my department head tour as Officer In Charge VRC-30 Detachment One. Only 2 out of 16 junior officers on board the USS Ronald Reagan became department head and I knew the Big Man winked again on me; once again the folder made it to the pile. But having switched from E-2C to C2 I knew my chances of becoming Commanding Officer was limited and my chances of gaining a flying billet post department head tour was extremely unlikely. I took my C-2 gig as my last flying, "CO" tour and took control of my career and left at my "high" as OIC and left the navy to take over my family business. Skills I learned along the way: -Naval Offcer; unlike the chair force, a naval offcer is required to do his job PLUS the job of admin, secretary, logistician, fanancial wiz, novelist (ever seen a navy instruction?) -Naval Aviation -E-2C Radar Weapon System -R-NAV Weapon System employment, navigation -Leadership: Aircraft Division Officer, Assistant Strike Ops Officer USS Ronald Reagan, Department Head Officer, Officer In Charge VRC-30 Det One Business - forthcoming Raytheon
