He joined David Tye at Rugby Estates and bought and sold shopping parades for 4 years which taught him to trade. He really wanted to get involved in more interesting projects, and after meeting Elliott Bernerd. established Chelsfield plc in 1986. As a private company we grew from a standing start to a net worth of 100m in 4 years through trading and adding value. After the property crash of the early 90's, Chelsfield raised private capital and then listed on the LSE in 1993, going on to assemble some of the major development sites in London: White City (now Westfield Shopping centre), Stratford Railway lands (now the Olympic Village and Westfield East), & Paddington Basin. Alongside those major developments David bought, developed and sold many other central London assets, including Ralph Lauren, New Bond Street, Riverside House, Southwark, Chesham Place, Belgravia, Westbury Hotels in London and New York. In 2003/4 Chelsfield PLC was privatised and then broken up and David founded Glebe, with the backing of some of the original Chelsfield investors and the Bank of Scotland. The focus was on Central London, added value properties, and over a period of 3 years over 400m of assets were bought and sold. In 2008 BoS withdrew any further support to their partners, and David bought them out of the original business, and sold other assets. The Glebe group is focusing on projects in Central London with full support from the original investors. Since the departure of BoS it has concluded several exciting development schemes with GDV's of over 250m: an exclusive office to residential scheme in Albemarle Street, W1, a Tier 4 data centre in Clerkenwell, a residential project in Chelsea and a gallery and apartment scheme in Mayfair. Glebe also offers it's development advisory skills on a consultancy basis to a few select property owners.
