David Chandler Email & Phone Number | David Chandler is the Reactor Analysis and Modeling Team Lead within the NScD Research Reactors Division’s Nuclear Safety and Experiment Analysis Group, where he supports the safe, reliable, efficient, and high-performance operation of HFIR through reactor analysis, modeling, and simulation. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and his M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 2008 and he received his Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering with a focus on reactor physics from the University of Tennessee in 2011. David has been analyzing challenging and complex problems to address safety and research needs at HFIR since 2008. As a safety analyst, he supports design, safety, and analysis aspects of reactor system and component maintenance, design, and fabrication with a focus on the fuel, core component, and control element systems. David supports in-core irradiation research experiments and is the lead neutronics analyst for the 238Pu production project. He is the technical lead for the HFIR LEU conversion project and has been performing engineering evaluations to support the conversion of HFIR from HEU to LEU fuel for approximately a decade. During his time on the aforementioned projects, he has played a major role in significantly enhancing the modeling, simulation, and optimization methods at HFIR. David is the HFIR Futures Reactor Analysis and Modeling Lead where he supports reactor upgrades that will enable HFIR to sustain its world-class performance for decades to come. Additionally, he is the ORNL HFIR neutronics working group lead and an executive committee member of the ORNL Nuclear Resources Analysis and Modeling Portfolio referred to as ONRAMP.
