We've rediscovered our local areas and reconnected with our communities (ok, we didn't have much choice). We crave more purpose and meaning in our daily transactions. This is certainly how I felt when I left Ogilvy London in 2020, 9 years after joining and 25 years after entering the creative advertising industry. I wanted a change from big clients and big agency habits. Something more aligned with my own values - something smaller. My lightbulb moment came during conversations with friends and associates who ran the kinds of businesses I'd always admired. People with an authentic passion for what they do and create products or services that make a positive difference in their customer's lives. The keyword here is 'make'. They get on and do When I spoke to them about the power of original ideas and narrative they were incredibly receptive. They craved this kind of clarity around what they do, who they do it for and, most importantly, why those people should care. So, during the course of 2020, I set about designing a strategic and creative process that would help them. Enabling them to find their voice and create a brand that truly reflects their business. Something they can be proud of and belongs to them. My process quickly and nimbly creates tangible assets from the beginning. Words and images that businesses can use in the real world, not charts and slides that stay buried in presentations. It's a collaborative approach that unearths the unique truths that will make your brand matter to your audience. These truths are then expressed in a compelling Brand Story. Why a story? Because story structure is how we order the world and make sense of it - it's innate. 'Perception seeks the clearest path' - if we want to communicate clearly and embed ourselves in someone's conscious then story is the method we must use. The hero of your brand story is not your brand - it's your customer. My approach puts the customer at the heart of what you offer and compels them to act. By finding your truths, clarifying your purpose and harnessing the power of storytelling you act in service of your customer and together you prosper. I call it David& because it obviously evokes one of the most enduring stories ever told, about how 'small' outwitted 'big' with skill, ingenuity and for the benefit of everyone.
