Danial Barrett Email & Phone Number | I have seen my fair share of the world. I have been on Operations in the Baltics, boarding Russia to the heat of Africa. In 2018, my passion for the law was founded when I had to act as a Litigant in Person between 2018 and 2023 to protect my son. Since then, I have only wanted to learn and act on behalf of clients. I am a second-year law student at Bangor University, I want my knowledge with the law to be comprehensive for two reasons. Firstly, to exceed the expectations of my client. Secondly, for my employer to see my value as an employee under their firm. My biggest challenge since being a law student, is being pulled back into the court arena once more as a Litigant in Person, whilst preparing for my law exams and advising clients, which has now since concluded. As a result, of my dedication, I now have a large quantity of clients under my position and the ability to prepare, file and serve witness statements and court bundles at a faster rate. I was originally a volunteer at Citizen's Advice Law Clinic. In September 2022, Citizen’s Advice offered me a part-time position to continue advising clients on Family Law and Lasting Powers of Attorney matters. It has been an incredible experience having to work and time manage my degree at the same time. At present I am on top of my studies, advising clients to up most professionalism. Since working for Citizens Advice the North Wales Law Clinic, I have looked at ways to excel communication between the North Wales Law Clinic and the courts. I have pushed to ensure that all parties are aware that my clients are being advised as Litigants in Persons has allowed all parties to share all documents promptly, less delays for the courts dealing with Litigants in Person, and to ensure that legal representatives and the courts are aware that I am not acting on behalf of a client, only to advise the clients. Since I have improved how the courts communicate with the North Wales Law Clinic, delays have been avoided which has resulted with a low risk of a client not having a right to a fair trial. So far, my experience with citizen’s advice has provided me with the knowledge to negotiate on behalf of clients, whilst also preparing and filing statements on behalf of a client. The most interesting part of the experience is the unexpected, for when client’s do not provide clear information, for example I have had to previously prepare a client’s twenty-four-page statement with a translator due to language barriers.
