Collen Beard is a For over 20 years I have practiced Intellectual Property law, especially US and foreign patent prosecution for designs, medical devices, and chemical and biomedical technologies. In addition, I provide counseling to individuals, universities, and companies related to intellectual property protection and licensing. I also draft and negotiate various agreements such as non-disclosure agreements, material transfer agreements, license agreements, supply agreements, and joint development agreements. My practice further includes patent analysis and preparation of patentability, validity, freedom to operate, and noninfringement opinions. In addition to patents, I advise clients on trademark usage and registration and provide clearance opinions. Prior to going to law school I conducted research in the areas of enzymology, protein purification, and process development. My background in laboratory research, and legal experience at both law firms and as in-house legal counsel, provide me with a unique understanding of the processes of invention and development of an idea into a product.
