I shipped out to boot camp the following year in July. I had enlisted under the advanced electronics career track and soon found myself learning the ins-and-outs of transistors, resistors, and capacitors which then led to my advanced training as a fire controlman. I was thrust into a world of radar theory, ballistics projection mathematics, and computer support equipment. My specialization was the Aegis weapon system which further led me to my first sea duty station aboard the USS Barry, DDG-52. I would spend the next four years of my life on that ship in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Global War on Terrorism, and the 2006 evacuation of American citizens from war-torn Lebanon. On board I received my Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialty, my GWOT Expeditionary Medal, two Navy Achievement Medals, and my four year Good Conduct Medal. I acquired the rank of Petty Officer Second Class shortly before deciding to move on to the civilian world. I was hired for a position as a field service representative for the market leading Videojet Technologies Inc. on the merits of my technical training from the military in the summer of 2007. I was able to capitalize on my acquired discipline from my years in the service to become a successful representative for the company. As a field agent, I work remotely from our home office in Chicago, IL to support a wide variety of customers in the Orlando, FL area. From food processing to aircraft part marking, our equipment assists with all of our customers track and trace needs. My duties now include the service, installation, repair, and training requirements of our customers in addition to the sale and management of service products. In this customer facing role, I have learned to adapt to the needs of a wide variety of situations and continue to take any opportunities for personal and professional development.
