I have been teaching Dutch as a Foreign Language to both children and adults for the past 20 years. As a bilingual speaker of Dutch and English with a degree in French and History (London University: 1986) a post graduate teaching qualification in French (University of Durham: 1987) and a Masters degree in Language Teaching (University of Edinburgh: 2013) I am ideally placed to enable students to make great progress in their learning of Dutch. I offer private tuition to adults. Specialties: In-depth knowledge of Literacy, Language Learning Strategies and the social capital learning a language provides. In 2016 I was nominated in the category Best Overall Teacher at Edinburgh University. I was elected onto the Executive Committee of the Association of Low Countries Studies in June 2018 (ALCS). My remit is to map where Dutch is taught in open learning colleges associated with universities in the UK. In July 2019 I spent a week at the Catholic University of Leuven engaged in a course designed for teachers of Dutch at universities, colleges and secondary schools from all over the world. This course was offered and paid for by the Taalunie who selected 15 native speaker candidates. It was a wonderful experience. In November 2019 I attended the ALCS conference in London entitled 'Worlding the Low Countries' with specialists in Dutch history, culture, arts from all over the world. It was very stimulating to be in an environment related to the Netherlands and Flanders which touches on my speciality of language teaching and is yet removed from it. In January 2020 I attended the AULC (Association of University Language Communities) at the Catholic University of Maynooth in Ireland. I had been sponsored by ALCS in a bid to find out more about Dutch teaching in the UK. I was the only Dutch tutor out of around 200 delegates. We clearly need a network for Dutch teachers. A few weeks ago I was recruited by The Language Shop to become an Assessor for language assessments for MoD personnel. I am very much looking forward to the first assessments in December.
